You’re making a special dessert with honey, and discover it’s hard and crystallized. What to do? The easiest way to soften it is to take the lid off and put it in the microwave, checking every 30 seconds until it doesn’t have any crystals. This doesn’t have any effect on the taste of the honey.

Butternut squash is a nuisance to peel and seems to take forever. Poke in several places with a fork and zap it for two or three minutes. The peels will come off very easily.

You will get a minimum amount of juice out of a cold lemon or lime. To get the most juice, nuke them for about 15 seconds. This won’t cook them, just warm them to make the juices flow.

Microwaving nuts, bread crumbs and coconut toasts them much quicker than a regular oven. Put them on a plate in a single layer and toast on high, checking every minute so they don’t burn or get hard.

It won’t be long before fresh peaches and tomatoes are back on your dinner table, and you’ll be faced again with the problem – how to peel them. The usual suggestion is to dip them in hot water. If you have bread or chips that have gotten a little too stale to eat, don’t throw them away! Wrap them in a damp towel and microwave them 10 seconds at a time until they are just the way you want them.

If your brown sugar is hard, empty it into a bowel and cover it with a damp towel. Microwave it on high for about 20 seconds, and it will be good to go!

Never cry again when you are chopping onions. Cut off the ends and then heat on high for about thirty seconds. You won’t feel that burning sensation.

Want to have beans for supper, but you forgot to soak them? Put one cup of dry beans into a bowl with three cups of water. Cover and cook on the highest setting until it boils – about 15 minutes. Take out and let it sit for one hour. Drain the beans and rinse them with cool water. That’s it – they are ready to be used in your recipe!
