You Wish All Schools Would Send Such Letters of Encouragement

Politician Chris Lyttle in Lisburn, Northern Ireland tweeted out a copy of a letter of encouragement from a local school to their students : writing ‘A special message for all P7 children today courtesy of Harmony Hill PS, Lisburn. You are all amazing.’

In this letter, the school reminds their students that there’s more to life than test scores. Most of us know that numbers on a test don’t reflect your true worth as a person, but for kids it’s often a bit harder for them to realize that, especially if that test mark is lower than they expected.

Harmony Hill Public School in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, knows how important test scores are to their students, but they also want everyone to realize that test scores aren’t everything. In a letter sent out to their P7 students (final year in elementary school) enclosed with their exam scores, students are reminded that

‘your attitude, and who you are as a person is much more important than any mark on a test.’

The letter asks students to stop and read it in it’s entirety before moving on to see what they’re test scores are, telling them that ‘in the envelope is a score. It’s the score you’ve been waitinig for but it might not be the score you’re hoping for.’

The letter concludes by stating

‘Remember, the score in the envelope is just a score for some tests. It cannot measure how amazing you are! So no matter what happens in the next few minutes, today you must celebrate YOU!’

Isn’t this amazing, I wish all schools send such letters of encouragement!
