Do you realize that certain clothes make you look broader or so called “fatter”, while some other clothing makes you look slimmer? There is no denying that we want to look and feel our best every day, well…why not?! Having a fuller figure shouldn’t necessarily make you look unattractive as long as you know how to dress your curves well. In fact, your curves can make you look really hot if you know how to dress well. Sometimes, we accidentally pick the wrong clothes that make our bodies appear out of proportion or outfits that highlight the wrong areas of our body. Avoid these 8 styling mistakes that are making you appear broader – and look your best every day!
1. Clothes That Are Too Tight
Some of us believe that tight clothes might can make us look slimmer. WRONG! Wear clothes that fit you perfectly, avoiding outfits that are too tight. Too tight clothes only accentuate the wrong areas of your body – muffin tops, etc. and draw unwanted attention to these parts, making us look bulkier than we actually are.
2. Baggy On Baggy
Balance your proportions so that your curves look very attractive in relation to each other. This will also help you present a trim silhouette, making you look less bulky. Wear clothes that fit you perfectly, avoiding outfits that are both too loose. Ill-fitting clothes will make you look very dowdy. Many plus sized people wear large clothes or multiple layers in the mistaken belief that the clothes will hide their bulk. Clothes that skim your curves will look absolutely fantastic. If your hips and bust are large, as they are likely to be, then you should avoid wearing tapering clothes that emphasize your bulkiness. Boot cut trousers or flared skirts will look best.
3. Wearing The Wrong Bra
Spend money on a well-fitting bra that gives your bust ample support and lifts it away from your abdomen. This will make you look not just slimmer but also more attractive. They are the foundations to our outfits, so do make sure not to neglect them while putting together a look. Ill fitted bras can make your torso look bulky and wider.
4. Three-Fourth Pants
Unless you are tall or have long legs like Victoria’s Secret models, three fourth pants are not for you. These pants will only make you look shorter and stouter than you are, and will make your legs look stumpier and your midriff wider.
5. Printed Bottoms
Try to choose prints that guide the viewer’s eye vertically and not horizontally. This is especially important if you are a petite plus sized person. Prints are heavier in width and colors, hence giving the illusion of a wider frame. Always stick to pants with solid colors and minimal vertical patterns if you really want to wear printed trousers. Incidentally, you should also avoid wearing small prints.
6. Wide Skirts
Wide circles are gorgeous, but honestly, they do make us look wide. However, you can decrease the additional width by opting for thinner fabrics with sheer detailing and by sticking to minimal prints. Teaming circle skirts with a body hugging top also balances out your ensemble beautifully.
7. Tight Necklaces
Tight necklaces shorten your neck, and a short neck creates an illusion of a wider frame…just like open necks add an illusion of height and also makes people look slimmer.
