After the eye-tattoo, comes more experimenting with the eyeball – California-based company Strōma Medical has introduced a new, non-invasive treatment that uses melanin-targeting laser technology to break down pigment on the outer layers of brown irises for permanently blue eyes.
Gregg Homer, one of the doctors testing the laser explains to CNN,
“The fundamental principle is that under every brown eye is a blue eye. The only difference between a brown eye and a blue eye is a very thin layer of pigment on the surface. Take that pigment away, then the light can enter the stroma and when the light scatters, it only reflects back the shortest wavelengths and that’s the blue end of the spectrum.”
This procedure only takes about 20 seconds and reveals the full color change within four weeks. The procedure is waiting for it’s FDA approval.
Once it’s FDA approved, it will shed more light on the safety of this procedure!
