According to a mother, Jovan Virag, known on Reddit as Jovianflower, her son’s “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” light-up shoes lit up in flames! Fortunately, her son wasn’t wearing the shoes at the time, but that doesn’t make the pictures of the aftermath any less cringe-worthy. The fire left the floor and back seat of her car with all kinds of fire damage.
“As soon as we opened up the car door, we could smell the burning plastic,” Virag said to KHOU News.
In the post on Reddit she wrote, “We came to the conclusion (along with the fire marshall) that it was my son’s light-up shoes that started the fire. They were completely burnt and charred up with the wires from the lights sticking out.”
“Jake and the Never Land Pirates” light-up shoes and the lithium battery that powers them are to blame.
“I’m just glad that my son wasn’t wearing them at the time,” Virag added in her interview with the news station. “I don’t know if he could have told me his foot was hot, and I don’t think he could have taken it off by himself.”
“We won’t buy them anymore, that’s for sure,” added the boy’s father, Attila Virag.
