This story has been going recently – A high school nightmare of a 15-year-old freshman named Hannah Combs at Harker Heights High School in Killeen, Texas, who was allegedly bullied by a schoolmate who poured super glue on her scalp. Combs allegedly sustained first degree burns to her scalp and was forced to cut her hair.
The mother took to Facebook and created a Page called Justice For Hannah, where the opening letter reads :
To Whom it may concern;
My name is Hannah. I’m not any different than your son or daughter. I go to Harker Heights High School, have friends, study hard, and I’m involved in after school activities. Well my thoughts about how I was going to spend my first year of high school changed drastically on Monday, September 14th, 2015. I was standing out front of the school and a boy decided to put a handful of super glue into my hair and on my scalp. He had previously told another boy that he was going to put it in a girls hair while he poured it into his hand. The super glue BURNED and I couldn’t help but cry. My dad had to pick me up from school and at the time that he picked me up the school wasn’t doing ANYTHING about this boy, until my dad told them to or he would call 911. I had to be taken to Urgent Care so they could remove the glue from my scalp, which gave me a chemical burn (this took a 1/2 hour!). I kept thinking the whole time “What did I do to deserve this?”. Later in the evening my mother and I were attempting to remove the glue from the rest of my hair, which hurt horribly. We ended up having to shave 1/2 of my head because the glue was so bad. The boy had ISS for a couple of days and today I had to call my dad because he was there and I have a class with him. I was in tears!
My dad came to pick me up and he was upset of course. He got his sticker when you sign in at the office, he signed me out and the officer wouldn’t let him take me home. My dad told me to come on and the officer told me to stay right there. The officer gave my dad a criminal trespass warning and told him that if he came back on campus that he would be arrested. I was finally able to go with my dad after he was in the parking lot and asking over and over “Where is my daughter?”. The criminal trespass warning was told to happen by the principal. How come I have to be treated like the criminal and the person who caused me harm get’s to walk around like nothing happened? THIS IS HOW KISD TREATS CHILDREN AND FAMILIES! PLEASE SHARE SO THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!
However, after this story started going viral on facebook, comments quickly poured in that Hannah’s account of the incident left out several points and that the story had been over exaggerated for Hannah’s personal gain.
Since, there are always 2 sides of coin, we wanted to hear the bully’s side of the story. So, after researching multiple online articles, we found one that threw light on a part of the “other side of the story”.
A Facebook comment which was allegedly posted by a family member of the alleged bully was deleted on Hannah’s page, however someone took a screenshot and shared it in to reveal the entire story.
The comment stated:
“What happened is that a bunch of kids both girls and boys were hanging out goofing around. A boy had brought super glue to school and some kids were playing around with it. The girl was calling them stupid and called the boy a little b*itch. The boy then put some glue on his hand and made like he was going to put it on her. She freaked out….almost like a girl would react upon putting a bug on her…she moved causing the boys hand to brush upon her head…thus making the glue go into her hair. After that the girl freaked out started messing with her hair…some of her friends went after the boy..one had kicked him, and another slapped him and another got in his face. (Which is “assault” upon him) Several kids have engaged in fighting him. Of course the boy was place in ISIS the girl in the nurses office crying. The assistant principal has seen the girl while in the nurses office approximately 20/30 min after the incident anther hair was matted and she was upset because she didn’t want to get her hair cut. NOTHING was said about burning by the girl or even school nurse. “
“The school made their decision based on that the boy is not a trouble making kid…he is average, has descent grades and has gotten into No extreme trouble through KISD just that he has served lunch or after school detention for being disruptive in class or being to fidgety due to his ADHD.”
Evidently, there’s something unclear here! Is justice for Hannah an exaggerated story?
Considering we do not have a statement from the alleged side, we are still uncertain of the validity of Hannah’s story. It is odd that there is no mention of first degree burns in the original open letter. Hopefully, once the entire story is revealed, it will shed some light on bullying.
