Police in Albuquerque, New Mexico say they have arrested a man who fired multiple shots into a truck, killing a 4-year-old in the backseat. Authorities say it was a case of road rage.
Tony Torrez has been charged in the death of Lilly Garcia. Lilly’s father, Alan Garcia, was driving the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
Police say Garcia and Torrez cut each other off in traffic. That’s when Torrez allegedly fired several gunshots into the vehicle. Nurses who were in traffic at the time stopped to help, but were unable to save the child.
Police got a break in the case when someone called an anonymous tip line, saying they knew who had been involved in the shooting.
Torrez has been charged with murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, assault with the intent to commit a violent felony, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, child abuse, child abuse resulting in death, and tampering with evidence.

In Lilly Garcia’s short life, her big brown eyes sparkled — just like her personality, her parents say. She swept into a room and filled it with laughter.
Tearful relatives clutched a picture of Lilly — her hand perched on her cheek with a big smile — as they remembered her Wednesday.
“My Illiana Rose had this personality that would just be over and above her age, and this smile and these beautiful big brown eyes and would just light up a room,” her mother, Veronica Garcia, told CNN affiliate KOAT.
Lilly loved dancing, singing and school. She loved to prance around in a pair of pink boots. And the girl nicknamed Lilly Willy was so easygoing, relatives said it’s hard to imagine their life without her.
“We wouldn’t want anybody in our shoes,” said her father, Allen Garcia.
