‘Original Gerber’ baby, Ann Turner Cook, turned 89 Friday, Nov. 20
Ann Turner Cook was the original model for the official Gerber baby logo that became the trademark in 1931 and hasn’t changed since. Cook’s neighbor, Dorothy Hope Smith, sketched the charcoal image.
Cook, who was born in 1926, had a sketch of her as a baby selected to represent the baby food company in an advertising campaign in 1928. The image is still associated with Gerber.
Cook went on to teach high school and college English, and is currently retired and following her passion of writing mystery novels.
