As parents, we sometimes feel teaching our kids a lesson is the right thing to do. However, how far would you go to teach your kids a lesson is a question. Some parents are real tough on their kids and always feel what they do as a parent is the correct thing to do. But, not so in the case below.
Joseph M. and Paulette L. Richardson the parents of Kendal Balls, wanted to teach kendal a lesson only enough to get him sick, so he wouldn’t do it again. They explained that kendal had been asking to have some alcohol for over three years.
A few hours later the 16-year-old boy died of alcohol poisoning. What was he drinking? The court documents state that he had some Fireball and Jack Daniel’s shots and and some beer.
Paulette tells the court that she checked in on him around 11:00 pm and he was fine, but at 3:45 am his stepfather went in to check on him and he was not responsive. The autopsy showed that his blood-alcohol level was 0.587.
These parents may have to go to prison for almost 20 years if they are convicted. Uinta County attorney Loretta Gerrard said, “People need to realize that there are natural consequences to their decisions. Sometimes a person’s actions have tragic results and there are often criminal consequences for those poor decisions.”
What would you do if your teen wants a drink? How would you handle this?
