The Sher Fertility Institute in St. Louis recently shared a beautiful photo of a sweet baby girl who was welcomed into the world thanks to IVF.
Mother of the baby in the photo, Angela, told ABC News that “the needles were the easy part.” She added that “the emotional struggle, the ups and downs” are what really took a toll. “I’m single and waited a long time for a husband to come,” Angela said. “And then by that time it was difficult to get pregnant.”
Angela’s doctor at the clinic, Dr. Molina Dayal, revealed that, despite the jarring number of syringes in the photo, those weren’t even all the supplies the mother used to conceive. According to Dr. Dayal, Angela had been through multiple IVF cycles over the course of a year and a half.

In vitro fertilization or fertilisation (IVF) is a process by which an egg is fertilised by sperm outside the body: in vitro (“in glass”). The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman’s ovulatory process, removing an ovum or ova (egg or eggs) from the woman’s ovaries and letting sperm fertilise them in a liquid in a laboratory.
VF success rates are the percentage of all IVF procedures which result in a favorable outcome. Depending on the type of calculation used, this outcome may represent the number of confirmed pregnancies, called the pregnancy rate, or the number of live births, called the live birth rate.
Due to advances in reproductive technology, IVF success rates are substantially higher today than they were just a few years ago.
