Pumpkin DIY Beauty Recipes

Let’s be honest, what else is there to do with all that leftover pumpkin you have from Halloween? Buckets and buckets of the stuff, all the insides from those carving-jobs you did with the kids. There’s only so much pumpkin pie you can make plus it’s not a recipe to suit everyone’s taste. There is something you can do with it all though…

Pumpkin DIY Beauty Recipes

You have yourself a very smart way of saving a small fortune for Christmas here if you play your cards right. Pumpkin season is upon us now and that’s great because there are so many benefits to both eating pumpkin and plastering it all over your face. However come Christmas-time, there will be fewer pumpkins so you can’t reap the benefits this nutrient-rich food has to offer.

Give your friends and relatives the benefits of pumpkin all year round with these pumpkin DIY beauty recipes. Package them up in old, recycled jars, throw some festive ribbon around them and what do you have? A bunch of Christmas gifts ready to go. Or ready to keep handy in case a forgotten friend comes to visit…

The good news is that you can freeze pumpkin too! The raw flesh can be cut into cubes, thrown into freezer bags and kept for when you need it. You could even puree the flesh and pack it into ice cube traps too, grabbing one as and when you need it. For a quick fix when you need a last minute face mask, it’s a really great idea. Plus you’ll have some handy for those pumpkin spiced lattes you crave when the coffee shops stop making them…

There’s so many beauty products you can make with all that leftover pumpkin you have from Halloween. As long you follow the recipes properly and store the products in the right way, you have your very own personal line of cosmetics and beauty treatments that, in reality, bring many more benefits than the expensive store-bought stuff anyway.

Pumpkin Spiced Sugar Scrub Squares

This is such a great idea for Christmas and you can make great use of those festive ice cube trays you NEVER remember to use too! Using them as moulds, you could make pumpkin spiced sugar scrub shapes and squares which are perfect for throwing into an old jar for a Christmassy pumpkin DIY beauty recipe.

You’ll only need a handful of ingredients – a quarter of a cup of coconut oil, one cup of brown sugar, half a cup of unscented and shredded soap, one teaspoon of pureed pumpkin and one teaspoon of pumpkin spice or cinnamon.

You can amend this recipe to suit your own tastes and you could even add coffee beans, white sugar, maple syrup, or anything you like to the mix too! It’s all about trial and error so get trialling and have a bit of fun.

The sugar in this recipe acts as a natural exfoliant for your skin and when you mix that with the antioxidants and enzymes found in the flesh of the pumpkin, you have something that will help fight back against wrinkles and give you a glowing complexion. The old skin cells will be brushed off by the rough sugar and the coconut oil will help to finish things off with a nice, thick, luxurious body moisturizer that’ll leave you feeling soft for days.

Pumpkin & Honey Fix-It Face Mask

If you’ve been partying hard or just working too many hours, you’ll probably find that your face is the first place to give the game away. Your complexion may be grey and sallow and wrinkles or dark circles more obvious than they were before. You can get rid of all of these things in as little as one sitting with the pumpkin and honey fix-it face mask – just another of the pumpkin DIY beauty recipes you could throw in a jar and give to a relative or friend for Christmas!

If you want to make an individual face mask, this is what you’ll need:

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp honey
  • 2 tsp’s pureed pumpkin

This is more a make-as-you-need kind of recipe as the milk makes it a treatment that won’t last much longer than a week or so when it’s stored in the fridge. When you’re ready to use it though just mix everything together, add to your face, sit back and relax for ten minutes before washing off.

The honey in this recipe is a humectant which means it holds onto moisture. This helps to retain the moisture in the skin on your face while the antioxidants in the pumpkin flesh work their magic on giving the skin cells the nutrients it needs. The milk helps to cool and soothe any problem areas and the cinnamon – that’ll work as a natural cleanser although it should be omitted if you have sensitive skin. Just leave it out.

There are so many pumpkin DIY beauty recipes you can put to good use with all the leftover pumpkin you have this Halloween. You don’t even need to focus on those Christmas presents either – with all the benefits this food has to offer your skin, you could just pamper yourself. You don’t need many ingredients and the treatments cost just pennies to make. With face masks, sugar scrubs, hair beautifiers, pedicure treatments and more, there’s plenty of body parts you could pamper post-Halloween.
