Stella McCartney has designed a “feminine and sensual” post-double-mastectomy compression bra in honor of her mother, the late Linda McCartney, who passed away in 1998 following a three-year bout with breast cancer. The designer will offer a portion of the proceeds for her chic pink-floral bras to benefit the Linda McCartney Center in the U.K., as well as the National Breast Cancer Foundation in the U.S. and Australia. British supermodel Cara Delevingne fronts the philanthropic campaign, appearing in the first ad wearing a flattering contour plunge bra in a deep fuchsia hue.
Unlike most bras of its category, which favor sexless utilitarianism over aesthetics, “Louise Listening” pale-pink, floral lace detailing in addition to technical support and comfort. Featuring a front zip for ease, the bra includes deep sides, a wide underband, and no underwires for extra comfort.
“We wanted to bring something feminine and beautiful into a bra that is taboo. There are so many different emotions attached to the tragic realities of having had a double mastectomy, many cultures are unaccepting and terrible things happen to women both physically and emotionally,” McCartney told the Telegraph. “And we just wanted to make something that allows women undergoing this to have something to be proud of, something with no shame attached. We wanted women to know that you can still be feminine, have your sensuality, have all of the things that are attached to being a woman and that part of your body can still feel beautiful on the outside, as well as the inside.”
The bra can be preordered at www.stellamccartney.com, where it’ll be exclusively available from October 1.
